Wrestling team wins region, heads to state tournament

The wrestling team hosted the UIL Region III-5A championships this weekend where the boys finished with 226.5 points 58.5 pts ahead of the rest of the region. Dallas Highland Park was 2nd with 168, Carrollton Creekview was 3rd with 134 and A&M Consolidated was 4th with 120 pts. The girls’ team finished in 8th place with 63 pts.

The top 5 from each weight class advance to the state tournament next weekend in Houston. Bryan will be represented with nine boys and three girls at state.

The BHS coaching staff also brought home some honors for the second weekend in a row with head coach Michael Zito being named the UIL Region III-5A Coach of the Year and assistant coach Zach Northern being named Assistant Coach of the Year voted on by the regional coaches.
