Classic series captures commonality through core themes

From his home in the Shire to the fires of Mount Doom, Frodo embarks on a perilous quest to destroy the One Ring. The Lord of the Rings, my favorite fantasy series, describes this quest to bring about the end of the evil Lord Sauron, the tyrant of Middle-Earth. The story is full of heroes and their courageous deeds. These books share powerful messages of bravery, hope, and sacrifice.

As supernatural and fantasy genres have enjoyed a resurgence, the tabletop role playing game, Dungeons and Dragons has (D&D) reached a level of popularity that eclipses the amount of people who played in the 70s and 80s. The game centers around imagination and allows players to create their own character whose destiny is determined by a roll of the dice. No two games are alike, keeping the game fresh and pulling new players as it propels them into a world of adventure.

Junior pursues passion, soars to new heights

Becoming a pilot is a lofty goal. It takes a very down-to-earth man to truly soar in the air, plane and simple. Junior James Addison has put hours of work into his flight training, and has shown great results. After flying his first plane at the age of 13, James has spent the last three years studying and working to become a licensed pilot.

Art students participate in scholarship program through local gallery

Last year, the DEGA International Art association launched a scholarship program to offer free art workshops and classes to talented students. Sophomore Macario DeLeon and junior Danielle MacCarthy were two of the students chosen to participate in the portrait drawing workshop over the summer.

Realistic characters make 90s movie still relevant

Boyz n the Hood is a movie about a group of friends growing up in the LA projects. The film sheds light on the struggles of minorities in the lower class. It is interesting to watch them grow and see the kind of people they turn into, Doughboy in particular.
