Not enough people play video games. At least not at the current rate and quality at which they’re produced. In America, there’s so many people who care about the newest superhero movie or the latest episode of Euphoria, so it’s clear that the demand for interesting and engaging media is high. And yet, video games […]

For centuries, humans have longed to soar high above the landscape below. As technology has continued to advance, humans can now have a bird’s eye view without even leaving the ground. That’s why junior Mason Rice was so intrigued when his former media director brought a drone to church, and inspired to pursue drones as a hobby and potentially a source of income.

As someone who cares a lot about storytelling and characters, there are certain topics that come up a lot. What stands out to me is creative, unique, big set-piece moments or characters. They can be comedic or serious, long-term or short-term, fantastical or realistic, or using existing ideas creatively or completely new ones. With characters […]

There’s a social stigma around the number 100 that makes it so substantial. Turning 100 years old, scoring 100 points on a test, publishing 100 issues of a comic. The number 100 is something people strive for around the world. On September 14, senior Caroline McCall not only surpassed 100 wins in her high school tennis career, but set a new record for Bryan High.

There’s a studio that’s made multiple academy-award-winning movies with phenomenal visuals, characters, and storytelling. And yet people look at them not like the brilliant masterpieces they are, but as silly baby movies to put on for their kids, all because they fall under the category of animation. Well, I’ve had enough. Genius can only go […]

I will admit, I’m no god when it comes to writing. I often have trouble starting or continuing to write projects, as the ideas I get excited about are many and frequent. There are some advantages to thinking of many ideas instead of focusing on a single one, though. Not only is there an audience for shorter stories that don’t take much commitment to read, but any one of those ideas could be fleshed out at any point. The most prominent reason I prefer short stories, though, is that any character I make, for any story, can be reused in a different story without too much effort.

With this whole pandemic thing going on, everyone’s been suffering. People were locked up in their homes, whether they liked it or not, and had limitless time with limited money. Jobs were scarce, meaning that people had to find different ways to make money. Some seniors at Bryan High took this opportunity to get creative and found ways to make money and be productive on their own.

The world has no shortage of good detective stories. Sherlock Holmes, Murder on the Orient Express, and Nancy Drew have captivated audiences across all ages. But those are all old hat. As of this decade, a new franchise of spine-tingling, brain-tickling video games/visual novels has reared its head in Japan, and has since spread to America. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a detective game featuring the fierce contention of Hope and Despair. It was created by the Japanese company Spike Chunsoft and published on November 25, 2010, with two sequels following shortly after. Needless to say, the series has made a huge impact on Japanese culture, and has rubbed onto American culture as well.

When thinking about an army soldier and a wrestler, one would initially think that the two are perfectly different. One is a massive, ripped, shirtless guy yelling at the crowd for glory, and the other is an astute, straight-backed fighter in a camo outfit and a rifle. Learning to fill one of these jobs might seem like it would take up all eight high school classes, there’s so much to learn and train before you’re even close to ready.

There are over 2000 games on the Nintendo Switch, some better than others. Nintendo has put its best into making sure that only the highest quality of games get into their consumer’s hands. They’ve also flooded the e-shop with really bad, tiny games that cost way too much. So I’m going to look at 8 of their best and slap them into a randomly-generated tournament!

It’s a cold December afternoon in the 1940s. Kids are playing in the snow outside, you’re bundled up in front of the fire with someone you love, and you decide to turn on the radio. When the static clears, you begin to hear the sounds of voices playing characters, telling a timeless story you’ve familiarized yourself with. Some seventy years later, students at Bryan High are taking the stage at the Queen Theatre to recreate one of those moments.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is a timeless story that has touched many hearts across the world through countless variations. The tale is told yet again as Viking Theater performs it as a radio play. As opposed to direct movement and visual aids, this show relies on actors’ voices and sounds as they take to their microphones.

For the past few years, Broadway has swept the world with hit after massive hit. Both young and old fans cheer for modern Broadway successes, such as Hamilton, Come From Away, Heathers, and Hadestown. Even past musicals have gained more attention, like Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, and Little Shop of Horrors. Community and high school theater programs have been popping up nationwide, and showtunes have become classic household names in theater-loving towns and cities.

Five figures stand in unison. A human wizard, a dwarf cleric, an elf ranger, a halfling rogue, and a tiefling bard. Towering over them is the terrifying prince of chaos and ruler of demonkind; Demogorgon. All brimming with confidence as they charge against each other. Only the jowls of luck can end the conflict of good and evil.
