UIL realigns districts every two years as they reassess school population changes. To ensure a more equal field of play in athletics, fine arts, and academic competition, the most recent change means that all four public high schools in Bryan and College Station will compete in district 18-5A next year, along with Conroe Caney Creek, Huntsville, Livingston, and Willis.

At the beginning of the 2012 -2013 academic year, the Board of Trustees discussed Bryan High School’s move from 5A to 4A. In February, the board constructed a committee to redraw the attendance zones within the district to increase Rudder High School’s numbers and decrease Bryan High’s in order to shift the UIL category of each school.

The Academic UIL team competed in the Midway Invitational on January 14, with the journalism team taking home 1st place honors.
Junior Jenna Williams placed 6th in Computer Applications. Senior John Fuller placed 1st in Headline Writing, 1st in Editorial Writing, 2nd in News Writing, and 3rd in Feature Writing. On Thursday, May 5, junior John Fuller attended the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin.
He competed in both news writing and editorial writing after advancing from region competition in Waco with a 1st place finish in news and 2nd place finish in editorial.
