UIL district realigns with local schools in 18-5A

UIL realigns districts every two years as they reassess school population changes. To ensure a more equal field of play in athletics, fine arts, and academic competition, the most recent change means that all four public high schools in Bryan and College Station will compete in district 18-5A next year, along with Conroe Caney Creek, Huntsville, Livingston, and Willis.

District realigns to move to smaller UIL division

At the beginning of the 2012 -2013 academic year, the Board of Trustees discussed Bryan High School’s move from 5A to 4A. In February, the board constructed a committee to redraw the attendance zones within the district to increase Rudder High School’s numbers and decrease Bryan High’s in order to shift the UIL category of each school.

UIL coaches will host an informational to discuss the different opportunities available through Academic UIL. The meeting is schedule for Thursday, Oct 11 in the Silver Cafeteria at 4:00. All students are invited to attend and ice cream will be served.

Journalism student earns top honors

Senior John Fuller earned top honors by placing 1st in News Writing at the State UIL competition held at the University of Texas on Monday, May 21. Fuller also placed 2nd in Editorial Writing. His placings in those two events earned BHS the title of 2nd place journalism team.

Journalism student advances to state competition

Senior John Fuller advanced to the state meet by placing 1st in Editorial Writing and 3rd in News Writing at the regional UIL meet in Waco on Saturday. State will be held at the University of Texas in Austin on May 21.

The UIL Academic District competition was held Saturday, March 24 at Belton High School.

Vikings place at Academic UIL meet

The Academic UIL team competed in the Midway Invitational on January 14, with the journalism team taking home 1st place honors.

Junior Jenna Williams placed 6th in Computer Applications. Senior John Fuller placed 1st in Headline Writing, 1st in Editorial Writing, 2nd in News Writing, and 3rd in Feature Writing. Sophomore Emily Nash placed 1st in Feature Writing and 6th in Headline Writing. Sophomore Eva Araujo placed 6th in Feature Writing.

Academic UIL attends first meet

Over the weekend, the Academic UIL students attended their first meet of the year at the Belton Invitational. The Journalism, Current Issues & Events and Computer Science teams each came away with first-place titles.

UIL informational to be held Thursday

There will be a UIL ice cream informational Thursday, September 22 after school in the Blue Cafeteria.

Journalist wins top honors at state meet

On Thursday, May 5, junior John Fuller attended the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin.

He competed in both news writing and editorial writing after advancing from region competition in Waco with a 1st place finish in news and 2nd place finish in editorial.
