I’m in the Viking band, and even though practices can be tough, it is definitely worth it. I love band and I think everyone should consider joining band or participate in some other student organization. There are many benefits to joining a student organization such as making new friends and spending lots of time with them at practices. Practice also gives you something to do after school other than homework.
One benefit of being in band is learning to be productive and staying busy. Band gives me something positive to do between school and sleep, and helps me learn how to manage time. There have been a few times that I have gotten behind on homework because of band practices, but this has helped me learn how to balance homework and band.
Band has also helped me make lots of friends. It has been hard for me to make friends, so I was a little nervous about being able to make friends when starting high school.
On the first day of summer band I was a little nervous about making new friends and during a break a senior sat next to me and talked to me and it kind of helped me feel welcome in the band. There was another senior who was really nice to me and introduced me to the rest of my section and many other band members.
There are a few other upperclassmen who introduced me to high school and they have helped me gain confidence to make more friends. Band gave me a large group of friends and we are like a family. I’m very grateful for them and if I weren’t in band, I wouldn’t have met several of my closest friends. I think it is very important to have good friends, and band gave me the chance to make lots of great friends.
Learning to play the trombone and being in band has helped me gain many important skills. So many concepts are important in other areas of life. Band has taught me to respond and think quickly because when you’re sight reading, you have to quickly read the notes and play them for the correct lengths of time. It has also helped my memory because I have to memorize music and drill (where to go on the field) during marching season.
Throughout the past few months, I’ve been able to enjoy school with my friends that I met in band. Sometimes practices feel long winded, but it is worth it and it gives me something to do after school. Band plays a very important role in my life, and I think it’d be great for anyone willing to put in the time and effort.
