We hear it everywhere we go. Countless times in the hallway, in the classrooms, and maybe even at home. Do you know what I’m talking about? Cursing.
“What’s the big deal with cursing?” you may ask. Since we hear it practically everywhere we go, cursing isn’t thought of as a big deal, when it is.
Even though we don’t realize it, hearing these words all the time really affects our mind and attitude toward life.
Do you ever stop and think about what the word you’re about to say actually means?
Is it really appropriate to what you’re trying to express? Don’t you think that often times, the words we say are a little too extreme?
Do you really need to cuss at someone when they accidentally bumped into you in the hallway? When you drop your books?
Saying curse words so frequently and loosely also decreases the power of them. Then, when you’re in a situation where one of those words might be more appropriate, the word doesn’t carry as much weight.
It also means that you have a limited vocabulary and can’t find any better words to express the way you feel. It makes you sound trashy and low class and leaves a bad impression on anyone that hears you.
You can tell a lot about a person by the way they speak, therefore we should choose our words carefully so that the words coming out of our mouths are ones that we want to be known for and proud of.
There is much power in words, and once you say something, you can’t take it back. We should try to use encouraging and uplifting words that lift others up instead of tearing them down.
Another place we often see cursing is online. When you grow up and try to get a job, employers are going to read your Facebook statuses and tweets to determine what kind of a person you are. Everyone sees what you post, and once it’s out there, it never goes away.
So next time you post a status, or say something when you’re mad, take a minute and consider what you say. Think about everyone that will see it, how it will affect them or yourself.
