Racing for time: Student leads in sport, organization on campus

The pressures of school, cross country practices, and being senior class president, are only the beginning of senior Seanna Rodriguez’s neverending agenda. While she struggles for the time to commit to cross country, she manages to be the light for the team and an influence amongst the younger members.

“Being the only senior on the team makes her the leader,” coach Jeanette Muncie said. “She is helping the other kids, encouraging them, and showing them what it’s like to be a part of the team. The team definitely sees her dedication and devotion to what we’re doing.”

Seanna’s positive attitude and hard work encourage the rest of the team to give their best.

“She is cutting minutes off of her time during the whole season,” Muncie said. “She always keeps it lighthearted and she’s improving a lot and it rubs off onto the rest of the team.”

Being the upperclassmen on the team, Seanna influences other members by setting the bar high and showing endurance.

“Seanna is one of the older kids,” freshman Cross Country member Lauren Yancy said. “She is always trying in practice and she never gives up and never stops.”

Through the hard work Seanna puts in on the course, she has seen the value in leadership skills.

“I’ve had to set an example and be a good role model for the underclassmen,” Seanna said. “I want more responsibility. I’ve had to put in more work and learned time management skills.”

Seanna is also a leader off the course as senior class president.

“Seanna is involved in numerous student activities around campus and is a well rounded student who knows how to balance her time,” Principal secretary and senior class sponsor Maria Field said. “Seniors are quite busy during their last year and not only have school demands, but outside demands. Even if it is a 10 or 20 minute conversation, she listens and gets the task done and brings other seniors with her. Her leadership skills have been earned by being the example to others.”

Overall, Seanna contributes to the team’s relationships and provides them with the courage to give it their all.

“She helps everybody laugh and shares so much about herself,” Muncie said. “She provides our team with strength.”
