If you’ve ever walked through the cafeteria after the last lunch, you’ve noticed trash littering the floors that were clean right before the stampede of students came through.
This is unacceptable in any school, much less a high school full of teenagers who are more than capable of depositing the leftover remains of their lunch in a nearby trash can.
Responsibility is the act of taking accountability for one’s own actions, which is something everyone should do no matter what age or situation they might be in.
No one is exempt from taking responsibility. Picking up after yourself is a simple task that everyone is capable of doing.
Toddlers are capable of picking up their own trash and if high school students aren’t able to do something so easy, then there’s a problem.
Bryan High is fortunate enough to have a custodial staff who is willing to pick up after students and keep the campus looking suitable by visitors who walk on our campus.
The custodian’s job isn’t to clean what is left behind in the cafeteria and hallways, but instead to make sure the school stays clean at a more root level.
They do a magnificent job of maintaining a nice look for a school built in the seventies, and it is irresponsible of the student body to assume they are able to sit back and do nothing to help.
So eat your lunch, pick-up your trash, and place it in the garbage can. Such a little act takes mere seconds for each individual to do, yet when no one does it, custodians spend hours cleaning up instead.
Bryan High is our school, and we need to take pride in its appearance, not only to us, but to visitors as well.
Along with school spirit, it is important for us to have pride in our own school and respect for school property. If we don’t have respect for our school property and custodians, respect for our school falls apart.
