Summer internship provides opportunities through experience, education

Lillian Smith March 29, 2022
Senior Eila Teizer traveled to Berlin, Germany last summer for a political internship. This unique internship included her working under a Green politician in Germany who is equivalent to America’s Pete Budttigies. While she didn't speak with him much, she worked on comparing the different political agendas for transportation in Germany in his office. This internship was not only an incredible opportunity, but it also helped her become more confident about her future plans.

Medical mission: Siblings spend summers in Belize to help locals

Samantha Lamb September 29, 2021
Toothbrushes. Running water. Medical care. In America, these things are commonplace, a part of daily life people don’t stop to think about. In the summer, tourists visit beautiful, tropical beaches without thinking about the people who actually live there. For those people, it is not a location for a paradise vacation; it is their home where they lack the basic necessities that Americans take for granted.

Girl Scout program helps student experience life abroad

Shannon Keyser October 5, 2016
Camping, selling cookies, and badges are things that people normally associate with Girl Scouts. Though these activities are usually at the forefront of what people assume a Girl Scout is, there is a lot more to it than the normal stereotype. It provides opportunities that are not normally available to people. Freshman Emma Turner got to experience one of these opportunities this summer when she ventured on a trip to Europe with other Texas Girl Scouts from the last week of July to the first week of August.

A chance worth taking

Regina Flores October 11, 2013
When I first learned that my family would be moving to Costa Rica for a year so my mom could do research on some dirt she called “soil”, my world as I knew it suddenly seemed to come crashing down. As an utterly furious fifth grader, I could not picture life anywhere other than Bryan/College Station where I had my cool school and my BFF. I told myself that it wouldn’t happen, that it couldn’t happen, that there was no way we could possibly be moving to a foreign country.

Realizations from Romania: Mission trip opens eyes, teaches gratefulness

Alanis King October 4, 2013
Summer: a time for heading to the beach, soaking up some sun, going on vacations, and getting away from school for a couple of months. When we think of summer getaways, however, an impoverished area on the other side of the world isn’t exactly the first thing to come to mind. While it doesn’t sound like the typical thing to do while on vacation from school, seniors Cassidy Lovett, Kinsey Craig, and Julia Kwasnica joined their youth group from First Baptist Church on a ten-day mission trip to spread the Gospel in the village of Coman in Romania.

Diving into another world provides new experiences

Jesse Baxter September 16, 2013
Humans have always dreamed of flying and while we have invented airplanes that is not the same as being able to fly. The closest that we will ever get to true flight is scuba diving. While diving, there are no boundaries other than the ocean floor and the surface. It is possible to go anywhere that you want to, just like flying.

Spring Break trip provides cultural opportunity

Justin Sanders April 9, 2012
For most high school students, spring break is a time to relax and hang out with friends. This year though, several students had the opportunity to visit foreign countries and learn about the culture and history of places like Greece and Italy.
