Softball dominates during local tournament

The varsity softball team won three games at the rain-shortened BCS Tournament.

The Lady Vikings traveled twice to Mumford’s turf softball field on Thur. and Sat. and played at home on Friday. They battled the elements and opponents to improve their season record to 4-0.

Thursday, the Lady Vikings defeated #20 Los Frenos 6-1. Junior Brittney Jones earned her first win of the 2012 season. Senior Meagan Kraatz went 2-3, scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases while senior Kenna Buxbaum went 2-2 and had 2 RBIs.

On Friday Buxbaum continued to show her skills at the plate. With 2 outs and 2 strikes in the final inning, the Lady Vikings had the bases loaded and were down 2-1, Buxbaum sent the 1-2 pitch over the center field wall for a grand slam, securing the first career varsity win for sophomore Rebecca Peirce. It also improved Baxbaum’s batting record for the day to 2-3 and 4 RBIs. Jones also went 2-3 including a double that scored a run. The Lady Vikes defeated Burleson Centennial 5-2.

Saturday the Lady Vikings again made the trip to Mumford and defeated San Antonio Holmes by a score of 7-2. Junior Reagan Boenker finished the game with a 2-run home run as time expired and senior Hannah Parker picked up her second win of the year on the mound.

The Lady Vikings will be on the road as they travel north to face at the Southlake Tournament this weekend.
