Being a fan of horror movies, I was very excited to see the movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. I had seen many previews for the movie, and I patiently waited for the premiere, yet after seeing it, I was a little disappointed.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is a movie about a couple and the man’s daughter moving into a house to renovate and then sell. During their efforts to redesign the house, the daughter begins to hear voices that tell her things that aren’t true about her father, but from her point of view, they seem like the truth.
The beginning of the movie was very well put together. It had a nice flow to it and it kept it’s mystery by not giving out too much information. It had suspense and action in all the right places, but then things went down hill fast. Like a majority of horror movies, the moment they revealed the creatures things were not as scary or suspenseful.
At the beginning of the film, I was clueless to where the voices were coming from, which intimidated me. The idea of the unknown is always suspenseful.
The movie would have played out much better if the audience was only given the “idea” of the creatures instead of actually revealing them for what they were.
Overall, the movie was very good. The actors did a good job with their roles. They portrayed actual fear which made me relate to it when I was a little girl and was afraid of the dark. It was believable and realistic to the audience until the creature revelation.
It was an okay movie and it had an okay plot, but I would not watch this movie again. I would recommend it, however, to any horror movie lover so they can judge it for themselves.
