From homecoming queen to varsity volleyball player, senior Reagan Boenker has a lot on her plate. She is heavily involved in sports, playing both volleyball and softball and also challenges herself in the classroom. She is more than just a player though, she sets an example for teammates and students on and off of the court. Reagan not only plays volleyball but she is also a varsity member of the softball team she exemplifies the same leadership and hard work.

“Reagan is a hard worker, she’s dedicated although I think it’s hard for her balancing school, softball and volleyball,” head volleyball coach Caroline Simpson said. “But as far as knowing the game and getting out there she’s definitely a role model for the team and others around her.”

Balancing school, sports and friends is not an easy thing for any high school athlete.

“You just really to have your priorities straight and honestly you really don’t have any free time,” Boenker said. “You just do sports and then you go and do your schoolwork and then go to sleep and do it all over again the next day.”
Boenker contributes more than just skill to her team; she also adds a level of strategy that influences the pace and outcome of each play.

“Reagan has a gift that a lot of kids don’t, her ability to view the court and to incorporate strategy into the game is impressive,” coach Simpson said. “She’s a thinker, some kids aren’t as much of a thinker as she is, Reagan has the ability to change things up based on what the other team is doing and that’s a great skill to possess, most player don’t develop a skill like that in high school and considering how much she plays volleyball, which isn’t as much as a lot of kids that we play against, she does that as a natural talent.”

Many students see Boenker as a leader on the court.

“Reagan really sets an example for all of us on the team, we all look up to her and admire her skill,”
Being looked up to as a leader can put a lot of strain on a player, but Boenker displays this with great results when being looked up to by teammates and coaches.

“Reagan is a good role model and I think that being a good role model is not just about being good as a player,” Coach Simpson said. “Here’s more to it than being the best physically on the court, but you have to offer and contribute to making the players around you better and also having the good work ethic and dedication, which she demonstrates already.”

Though she is not pursuing volleyball in college she will continue as an athlete in the future.

“I have a scholarship to play softball at A&M, I love playing softball so being able to be apart of it for as long as I can is important to me,” Boenker said. “Plus I’m playing for my college and education is important to me also.”

Boenker plans on playing softball for as long as possible, and coaching after college as well.

“After I graduate from college I want to coach elementary school P.E and then do assistant coaching in a high school sport for volleyball or softball.”
