Softball team opens district play with win

The varsity softball team started District 14-5A play with a win as they defeated the #5 ranked Conroe Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles 4-3.

After four scoreless innings the Lady Vikings broke through in the 5th. Junior Ally Bessette lead the inning off with a walk. Junior Morgan Isbell then followed with an infield single. With runners on 1st and 2nd, junior Rebecca Peirce hit a single up in the middle scoring Bessette. With one out, junior Erica Russell hit a 3 run home run to give the Lady Vikings a 4-0 lead.

Oak Ridge cut the lead in half in the bottom of 6th, scoring 2. In the 7th with runners at 1st and 3rd and no outs, senior Brittney Jones entered the game in relief to keep a 4-3 lead. Jones would induce a ground ball back to her, throwing to junior first baseman Madison Goolsby. The runner on third attempted to score on the play and Goolsby fired home to senior Reagan Boenker for the double play. Jones ended the game via a strikeout to give the Lady Vikings their first win in district play.

Lady Vikings will travel to Missouri City for their final tournament of the season before coming home to take on District 14-5A opponent Conroe next Tuesday March 5th.
