May 18 – 19: Pledge Day
Students will have the opportunity to sign a pledge to be “tobacco free”. All students who sign the pledge will receive a tobacco free lanyard & ribbon to wear. These students will also have their names placed in a drawing for prizes. If a student’s name is selected, VKOT will verify that that the student is still wearing their tobacco free ribbon and lanyard. Students must also be participating in the Tobacco Free Dress Up days. Students will have the opportunity to receive a prize for their tobacco-free participation. Prizes will be given out throughout the week.
Monday, May 18 – “Be Smart: Don’t Start”
Students will be encouraged to dress like a Nerd to show that they are too smart to start using tobacco.
Tuesday, May 19 – “Free From Tobacco”
Students will be encouraged to wear “Patriotic Dress (Red, White, & Blue)” to show that they are free from tobacco use.
Wednesday, May 20 – “Disney Day”
Students will be encouraged to dress as their favorite Disney character to show their joy of being tobacco free.
Thursday, May 21 “Hunting Down Tobacco”
Students will be encouraged to wear camouflage to show support for the fight against tobacco use.
Friday, May 22 “HIGHLIGHT” Tobacco Free Students
Students will be encouraged to wear really bright or neon colored clothing. The brighter the better!
Saturday, May 23 Kick Butts Carnival & Kick Ball Game
Sponsored by BVCASA at a local park (TBD) 5:00 – 9:00 pm
A variety of organizations have been contacted to set up booths to provide health & safety information to the community. Organizations include BPD, BFD, CPD, CSFD, Cancer Association, Heart Association, BVCASA, Health Dept., TABC, TEEX, an exercise group, VKOT, MADD, etc.
In addition to this, a carnival atmosphere will be created that will include a variety of games and activities for children. Activities include face painting, dunking booth, sack race, bounce house, ring toss, two-legged race, water balloons. A concession stand will also be available where VKOT will be selling drinks, nachos, hot dogs, chili dogs, candy, popcorn, cotton candy, chips, and other items.
A community wide BISD kick ball game will take place where a Bryan team will play a team from College Station team. Teams will be made up of community members, school staff, and students. The winning team will receive the first annual Kick Butts Trophy.
Saturday, May 23 Tobacco Free Summit
The state tobacco prevention initiative group, Say What, will hold a tobacco free summit in College Station at the Holiday Inn. Our area was selected because of the strong tobacco prevention projects completed by VKOT & BHS. VKOT state teen ambassadors will help to facilitate this event. This summit will represent approximately 125 students and adults from the Brazos Valley.
