Fathers lead through faith, family, focus in new Christian movie

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer April 12, 2024

The moral of the story is to always listen to my older sister's movie suggestions. I was not super interested in the idea of a Christian movie about fathers. I may be a faithful Christian, but Christian...

Sign of the times

Sign of the times

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer March 1, 2024

A language where hands talk instead of mouths. Where ears do not hear but eyes do. As the world becomes more inclusive, American Sign Language is an important way to connect with other people. Junior Sophia...

Family, friendly film takes audiences on Journey to Bethlehem

Samantha Lamb, Staff Writer January 23, 2024

I don’t go to the movie theater very often, but in November I went to see Journey to Bethlehem not once, but twice (a first for me). It came out around my birthday, so my family and I went to see the...

Polar opposites

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer September 22, 2023

If Charles Dickens had written Pride and Prejudice, the result would have been North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. Part love story, part social novel, this story is both deep and highly enjoyable.  I...

Happily ever after

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer April 12, 2023

One day when I was at the public library with my little sister, I saw a display of fairy and folk tale collections. I stopped to look through the books to see if there were any I hadn’t heard of or any...

Flipping out

February 2, 2023

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about their smartphones, even though they have spent $700+ on them. They say the case is ugly, or the screen is cracked. Some grumble that their screens are too small,...

Though many people have made an impact on Josie’s theatrical career, her dad and intermediate school theatre director stand out the most.

Going the distance

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer October 18, 2022
Feet pounding the dirt. Rows of corn rolling by. Panting breaths. Early morning practices. Senior Andrew Shields experiences all of these as a part of the cross country team. He is an all-district runner and a leader on the team. Shields started his journey running as a fifth grader at Johnson Elementary.

Love triangle for the ages

Samantha Lamb, Staff writer September 9, 2022
The creeper in the basement and a viscount fall in love with a girl belonging to one of the least socially acceptable professions in all of France, causing three hangings, two shattered chandeliers, and one burnt down opera house. I love The Phantom of the Opera, and I have enjoyed listening to the soundtrack for as long as I can remember. I have seen it both as a play and as a movie. I love both, though each for different reasons.

Limited vocabulary, poor grammar cloud communication

Samantha Lamb March 11, 2022
Our school and society as a whole faces a big problem with language and vocabulary. It is now widely considered acceptable to use profanity in normal conversation and in the classroom. People get away with using small words when a higher vocabulary helps give more detail and is more precise. The language used for texting is particularly atrocious; letters and words are different, but apparently people have forgotten this.
