Four-star defensive end selected as All-American, signs with Purdue

Work horse: Senior football player puts in time for offense, defense

player’s goal each time he takes the field. He aims to spend as little time on the field as possible to give his offense more time to score. Senior Tanner Allen does not take a break from the game when the defense comes off though, but instead stays on to block for his quarterback on offense. Playing a single side of the ball in football requires a lot of stamina, speed, and agility, but playing both takes a special kind of player. Being on the field play-after-play can take its toll on a player, but Tanner takes it all in stride.

Sunday night football looks different in face of pandemic

With COVID-19 still looming, many sports programs have been forced to change their way of thinking. The NFL decided to adapt strict guidelines to ensure players had lower chances of contracting the virus.

Calculated decisions: Junior quarterback excels on field, in classroom

Football is a calculated sport. Anticipation and planning paired with the mathematics of velocity and angles require players to think quickly. Junior quarterback Nico Bulhoff possesses traits of a great quarterback and excels on the field and in the classroom.

First and goal: NFL superior to college football with talent, entertainment

Three and out: Quickness, determination helps middle linebacker lead team

The crowd erupts as they try to distract the offense from their next play, motivating the defensive line to zero in on the ball and bring the quarterback to the ground behind the line of scrimmage. Senior middle linebacker Detarious Turner has become a leader for the Viking defense through experience, determination, and hard work.

‘Bear’ing weight on offense: Senior lineman to play at Baylor University

High school athletes await the day where the college of their dream signs them to play the sports they’ve spent years of their life working to perfect their best abilities, while playing games almost every Friday night against teams that might be bigger and stronger, and keeping that drive and school spirit in mind with every yard line crossed. Senior Ylijaah Hall is experiencing that after Baylor University signed him to play football next season.

First and goal: Football team finds leadership in senior quarterback

Fall in Texas brings about slightly cooler weather, holidays, and football. Backyards are full of kids learning how to throw a spiral while their friends speed downfield, avoiding random pieces of playground equipment. Most high school athletes get their start joking around and hanging out with friends on the weekends without any structure or real […]

Down, but not out: Senior offensive lineman redefines role on team after injury

Players stare across the line at each other waiting for the ball to be hiked. Beads of sweat run down their faces as the tension builds with each word the quarterback yells. The ball sails from the center’s hands into the quarterback’s and the play begins. Each offensive lineman blocks the man across from him. Pushing, protecting the quarterback and the running back coming around the end. But plays, like life, don’t always go as expected. A defensive players peels off his man and slams into the back of one of the offensive lineman’s knees. Pain. Pain, not yardage is gained on this play.
